Unicoi State Park is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Northern Georgia 2 hours north of Atlanta, Ga. As you drive into the park you can see the beautiful lake which is the focal point of the park.

Activities in the park include beach swimming, fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, archery, and shooting. They even offer lessons for paddleboarding, kayaking, and fly fishing.

How about zip lining or a GoPro scavenger hunt?

Don’t forget to hike to Anna Ruby Falls in the park. If you go at night in May or June, you can see all of the fireflies flying near and around the falls. You’ll need a reservation. The night hike is ranger led.

Nearby there are many other things to do. You can go inner tubing on the Chattahoochee River with Cool River Tubing. Or try downhill mountain biking on an old forest service dirt road along the Chattahoochee River past 12 waterfalls with Woody’s Mountain Bikes.

The mountain biking is 65% downhill and the rest is level. Go on Winery tours. Try Yonah Winery and go in the cave where the wine ages or pick from several others wineries in the area. Check out the Cabbage Patch dolls at the Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Ga. Visit nearby Helen, Georgia, a beautiful alpine Bavarian-style village with excellent restaurants and shopping.

Try the Helen Water Park or one of several miniature golf courses in the town. 30 minutes away is Tallulah Gorge State Park with beautiful waterfalls and a suspension bridge over the very deep gorge and many beautiful hiking trails. I think you can find something to do in this area. You can stay at the Unicoi State Park Lodge or various nearby cabins. You could also stay in a hotel in Helen or at any of several campgrounds nearby. It’s a great family vacation destination.
