Pikes Peak Downhill

Feeling adventurous? How about a ride down Pikes Peak from the summit? We used Pikes Peak Bike Tours. They provided the bikes, parkas, overalls, and gloves for the start of the ride. It was in the twenties at the summit even though it was 85 degrees in Colorado Springs.

It’s a little scary. You can really pick up speed. Unfortunately, there is a small section with a gradual uphill climb. That was tough at that high elevation. I was happy when we started going downhill again. The uphill portion is less than 10% of the total ride. You can do it. I made it.

Old Gold Camp Road – Cripple Creek to Colorado Springs

Want to try something a little more relaxed? Try the leisurely scenic ride down an old abandoned dirt road through several abandoned railroad tunnels right into Colorado Springs.

We shuttled to the top and we took our time riding down on our own. The road is wide and ascends gradually down the mountain for a very safe and not so scary ride. Such fun! The views are stunning, and the tunnels are amazing. You ride down the mountain passing down behind the Broadmoor Hotel and arrive back at the bike shop in Colorado Springs. We did have to take the bikes up and over one of the tunnels that were closed. This is an easy ride. All downhill or level and very relaxing.

Both rides take 3-4 hours. Give it a try. Pikes Peak Bike Tours did a great job and we had so much fun. This is not an advertisement for anyone. I was not paid to promote the bike company, but they did an awesome job.
