According to tour guide, the owners of the winery stepped outside one morning and realized they didn’t hear birds or insects, just silence. Chemicals had killed everything. In 1986 they decided to transition to a more environmentally friendly winery.
Instead of bagged fertilizer, weed killer and pesticides they rely on composting, natural predator-prey relationships, cover crops, and the animals that live on the land, to keep the winery heathy and balanced, Everything is natural. Everything is natural. Nothing is artificial. Benziger Winery is organic, sustainable, and biodynamic. Biodynamic is the highest level of organic farming.
My favorite tour is the the Tribute Estate Tour. on this exclusive tour you learn the fascinating story of biodynamic wine-making with wine and barrel tastings along the way.
