Ever see the movie “National Treasure”? Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park is where they found the treasure. Remember all of the boulders? It’s actually not right behind Mount Rushmore. It’s a few miles away.
Custer State Park is amazing. Check out the Wildlife Loop with the wild burros, buffalo, pronghorn, and other wildlife.
Drive the Needles Highway and go through the Needles Eye Tunnel.
Try swimming, hiking, boating, fishing, and the Black Hills Playhouse. How about the Safari Jeep Tour and the Chuck Wagon Cook-out? Within 30 minutes you can visit Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wind Cave National Park, and Jewel Cave National Monument.
Under an hour away is Mammoth Excavation Site in Hot Springs and Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. Take a day trip to Badlands National Park and Wall Drug.
Another great trip to Devil’s Tower National Monument. That one might be an overnighter. It’s well worth it. You can stay in one of 4 lodges, 9 campgrounds, and numerous cabins in the park. 5 hours north of Denver. A magical place.
